In this role, youll play a vital part in installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting advanced systems that power connectivity, security, and communication for our clients.

Position Overview

The Low-Voltage Technician is responsible for the installation, termination, and testing of low-voltage systems for residential and light commercial projects. This role focuses on systems such as structured cabling, audio/video, lighting, motorized shading, security systems, and home automation.

The technician will gain hands-on experience while contributing to the successful implementation of projects, ensuring quality, efficiency, and adherence to design specifications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • System Installation and Support
    • The installation of low-voltage systems, including running and terminating cables, mounting equipment, and setting up devices.
    • Ensure installations meet design plans, timelines, and quality standards.
    • Perform cable testing, troubleshooting, and verification to ensure proper system functionality.
  • Team Collaboration
    • Support other team members on-site to achieve project goals efficiently.
    • Maintain a positive team environment, communicating effectively with team members, project managers, and other trades.
  • Technical Tasks
    • Learn and assist with the setup, programming, and testing of systems such as audio/video equipment, lighting controls, motorized shades, and security devices.
    • Read and interpret system schematics, blueprints, and installation manuals.
  • Documentation and Reporting
    • Maintain accurate records of work completed, including cabling routes, connections, and test results.
    • Report project status, challenges, and needs to the project manager.
  • Tool and Job Site Management
    • Properly handle tools, materials, and equipment.
    • Maintain a clean and organized job site.
    • Follow all safety protocols and procedures on-site.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience
    • 1-3 years of experience in low-voltage installations (structured cabling, audio/video, security systems, or related fields).
    • Willingness to learn and grow in the low-voltage technology field.
  • Technical Skills
    • Basic understanding of low-voltage systems, cabling, and wiring methods.
    • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment effectively.
  • Certifications
    • Oregon Limited Energy A or B License (preferred).
    • Washington 06 Limited Energy License (preferred).
    • Additional certifications: CEDIA Cabling & Infrastructure, BICSI Installer 1.
  • Other Requirements
    • Ability to follow directions and work as part of a team.
    • Strong attention to detail and a focus on quality workmanship.
    • Ability to read blueprints, diagrams, and technical manuals.
    • Good communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Physical Requirements
    • Ability to stand, kneel, bend, climb ladders, and lift up to 50 lbs.
    • Comfortable working in tight spaces, on ladders, and at varying heights.

Travel

  • Travel to local project sites is required. Occasional regional travel may be needed for training or larger projects.
